Aggie Baseball Drops Two Games At MAC Freedom Foe Manhattanville

PURCHASE (NY) – The Delaware Valley University baseball team suffered two Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom losses at Manhattanville College on Saturday.

The Valiants won the first game, 13-2 before taking the nightcap, 6-4. They improved to 22-11 overall and 12-6 in the conference. The Aggies fell to 14-15 with a 3-13 MAC Freedom mark.

The Manhattanville offense recorded 18 hits in the opener. DelVal's two runs came in the fourth inning. Senior designated hitter Matt Dewald led off with a single to left field. Sophomore first baseman Jeremy Stewart drew a one-out walk then freshman third baseman Josh Morgan hit a double to left center to put the two runs on the board.

Dillon Healy tossed a complete game for the win (3-2). He surrendered two runs on six hits while striking out seven. Sophomore Jeremy Hefele took the loss (2-4).

The Valiants jumped out to a 6-0 lead in game two. Delaware Valley tallied its first run in the fourth. Dewald recorded a leadoff single and went to second on an error. Stewart followed with a double down the left field line to cut the deficit to five.

The Aggies added three more runs in the sixth. Junior left fielder Bobby Altieri began the frame with a double to left. Stewart and Morgan were both hit by a pitch to load the bases. Altieri came home on a wild pitch before freshman catcher Ryan Schuetrumpf's groundout scored Stewart. After another hit by pitch, sophomore shortstop Kevin Crill singled to center and Morgan touched the plate. DelVal had two more runners in scoring position following a wild pitch but a groundout ended the inning.

The Aggies got the tying run to the plate with two outs in the seventh but a strikeout ended the game. Sam Garito went five innings for the victory (3-2). He allowed one run and four hits while fanning two. Thomas Contrelli pitched the ninth for his first save. Junior Trevor Dalton was tagged with the loss (3-3).

Chris Conklin was three-for-four on the day with a triple, two RBI and one run scored for the Valiants. John Delahanty registered four hits (six at-bats), one double, one RBI and three runs scored. Robbie Lynch hit two doubles and drove in four runs. Bryan Borruso knocked in four and had a double.

Crill finished three-for-six with a double and one RBI. Dewald, Altieri, Stewart and Morgan all produced a double. Morgan tallied two RBI while Stewart and Schuetrumpf had one RBI apiece.

Next, the Aggies celebrate Senior Day and host King's College for a MAC Freedom doubleheader on Sunday, April 24 (1:00 p.m.).
