RICHMOND, Ind. – Freshman Walter Talcott set the single season record for wins with eight as the Earlham College baseball team defeated Anderson University 5-1 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action on Sunday.

Talcott pitched his fourth complete game of the season, allowing just one run on nine hits while striking out 11 Raven batters. The Lafayette, Ind., native is 8-0 on the season with 65 strikeouts in 66 innings pitched.

Anderson (12-18, 9-9 HCAC), which won the first two games of the series on Saturday, got on the board first with a win on three hits in the first inning.

The Quakers got a runner 90 feet from home plate in three of the first four innings, but failed to score. Earlham broke through in the fifth, however, scoring three runs on four hits to take a 3-1 lead.

After Anderson failed to score, the Quakers stretched their lead to 5-1 with two more runs in the sixth.

Earlham finished with eight hits as a team including two hits each from juniors Eric Elkus and Cody Krumlauf. The top five in The Quakers' order produced five hits and three RBIs. All five crossed the plate exactly once.

Ben Yoder took the loss for Anderson allowing three earned runs and seven hits in five innings of work.

Earlham improved to 23-10 overall and 12-8 in HCAC play with the victory. The Quakers stand in third place in the HCAC and will travel to Bluffton University on Tuesday for a 4:15 p.m. contest.
