Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team rallied late but could not overcome four multiple-run innings as the Cru fell to U.T-Dallas 15-10 Tuesday afternoon in Belton. The game was the final non-conference contest of the year for the Cru and drops UMHB to 11-25 on the season. The Comets improve to 20-16 on the year with the victory.

UTD took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Ty Johnson blasted a two-run, opposite field home run in the bottom of the second to give the Cru a 2-1 lead. The Comets put up three runs in the top of the fourth for a 4-2 lead, but Seth Martin scored on an error in the bottom of the inning to cut the gap to 4-3. U.T.-Dallas erupted for five runs in the top of the fifth, with Ryan Burciaga's three-run double doing most of the damage. The Cru responded with RBI singles from Chase Burrow and Scott Stephens and Max Conway sacrifice fly to pull to within 9-6 in the bottom of the fifth, but left the bases loaded in that frame. Nick Marti's two-run double made it 11-6 in the top of the sixth and the Comets tacked on four more in the top of the eighth. Burrow hit a solo homer in the bottom of the ninth, Martin doubled home a run and Conway also scored on an error on the play. Dakota Parsons added an RBI double to make it 15-10, but that's as close as the Cru would get.

Martin had three hits for UMHB and Johnson, Burrow, Stephens, Will Stafford and Mitch Patterson added two hits apiece. Johnson also pitched one and two-thirds innings of scoreless relief. Nathan Kent took the loss for the Cru to fall to 2-3 on the year. Nolan Smith had four hits and four RBI to lead the Comet offense and Andrew Leilich earned the win to go to 1-0 on the season for UTD.

The Cru will close out the regular season with a three-game conference series against Concordia Texas this weekend in Belton. The two teams will open the series with a 7:00 PM single game on Friday before closing out the weekend with a 12:00 PM doubleheader on Saturday.
