BLUFFTON, Ohio – The Earlham College baseball team used a 10-run third inning to defeat Bluffton University 17-2 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) action on Tuesday.

Earlham tallied 10 runs on six hits and three Bluffton errors in the third. 14 Quakers batted in the inning.

Leading 10-1, the Quakers added a single run on another Beaver error and a sacrifice fly from junior Cody Krumlauf in the fourth.

Bluffton added a single run in the fifth making the score 11-2, but Earlham responded with two runs in the seventh and a four-run, three-hit ninth inning to put the game away.

Earlham tallied 11 hits as a team including three from sophomore Drew Dietz. Krumlauf led the way with three RBIs while senior Ethan Bailey finished 2-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Junior Matt Barger also added two hits and crossed the plate three times.

Sophomore Matt Mathies improved to 3-0 on the season with the win, allowed one earned run over six innings pitched. Juniors John Cornett and Zach Kimura pitched the final three innings allowing just two hits combined.

The victory over Bluffton gives Earlham the season sweep of the Beavers. The Quakers (24-10, 13-8 HCAC) will travel to Transylvania University for a weekend series beginning with a single game on Friday at 4 p.m.
