The Scarlet Raiders are in a battle for an NJAC playoff berth with Rutgers University-Camden and William Paterson University as the three teams are currently clawing for the sixth spot in the conference standings.

NJAC Standings

Rosoline improves to 7-1 on the season with the second complete-game victory of his career. The rookie went seven strong innings, giving up just two hits and striking out one. Rosoline now has seven wins in 10 starts, going at least six innings in every appearance but one this season. The Paramus Catholic product also now boasts two shutouts and a 2.66 earned-run average.

After going down in order in the first and second, the Scarlet Raiders scratched across a run in the third inning to take a 1-0 lead. Sophomore Ross Halkias singled to lead things off, and he advanced to second base on an error in the outfield. He moved to third on a wild pitch and then scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of sophomore Brian Boulineau.

R-N loaded the bases with two outs in the fourth and failed to score, but the Scarlet Raiders padded their lead with a big three-spot in the sixth. Boulineau opened the inning with a walk and stole second with one out. Senior Billy Taylor walked to put runners on first and second and classmateGerry Patrizio followed with a run-scoring single to right field, bringing in Boulineau. Patrizio quickly stole second base to get two in scoring position, and after a groundout, junior Josh Cote came through with a clutch base hit to left-center to give Rutgers-Newark a 4-0 lead.

Rosoline sent the Lions down in order in the fifth, worked around a walk and a double in the sixth and then erased a leadoff free pass with a double play to end the seventh.

In the eighth, Cote created his own run, doubling to lead off the inning, stealing third and scoring on a throwing error by the catcher to put his team on top 5-0. However, the game was called after he crossed the plate because of rain, and things reverted back to the 4-0 score at the end of the seventh inning.

There were only six hits in the game as the Scarlet Raiders picked up four, two of which came from Cote. Patrizio went 1-for-4 with an RBI and run scored, Halkias went 1-for-2 with a run and a walk and Boulineau walked, scored and drove in one.

Brandon Zachary took the loss (6-1) for the Lions, going seven solid innings and allowing three earned runs (four total). He scattered four hits, walked five and struck out six.

Rutgers-Newark will honor its senior class at 3:40 p.m. on Friday, prior to the 4 p.m. first pitch against the Lions at Riverfront Stadium.
