DelVal Baseball Falls To DeSales In MAC Freedom Contest

DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University baseball team suffered a 10-1 loss to Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom foe DeSales University in the home finale on Friday.

The Aggies dropped to 15-18 and they are 4-13 in the conference. The Bulldogs upped their record to 23-13 overall with a 13-6 MAC Freedom mark.

DeSales put two runs on the board in the top of the first. Alec Hardy hit a RBI single and later scored on a wild pitch. DelVal tallied a run in its half of the frame when junior left fielder Bobby Altieri came home on an error.

The Bulldogs recorded another pair of runs in the third. Danny Licamara smacked a run-scoring triple to left center before scoring on an error. Licamara also started a four-run sixth for DeSales when he blasted a homer to left center. Tommy Epsaro hit a RBI double to left center and Conner Lafferty knocked in two runs with a triple. The Bulldogs added two more runs on an error in the ninth.

Chris Zampini was in the zone all afternoon for the Bulldogs as he went the distance, surrendering just one unearned run and six hits while fanning seven in the win (5-0). He did so on 98 pitches, 77 thrown for strikes. Junior Trevor Dalton pitched six innings in the loss (3-4).

Licamara finished two-for-three with two RBI and two runs scored. Lafferty drove in two while Hardy and Epsaro knocked in one apiece.

Altieri was the only Aggie to pick up multiple hits on the day, going two-for-four with a double. He continued his impressive play of late, which has seen him bat .619 with five doubles, nine RBI and 10 runs scored over his last 11 contests.

Delaware Valley wraps up the 2016 campaign with a doubleheader at DeSales on Saturday, April 30 (1:00 p.m.).
