Hockaday & Bell Named To All-Region First Team

More news about: Frostburg State

FROSTBURG, Md. – Senior KJ Hockaday and junior Devin Bell have been selected to the 2016 D3baseball.com All-South Region First Team to accent four Frostburg State selections as announced Monday.

Hockaday was honored as a first-team second baseman, while Bell was honored as a first-team outfielder. Sophomore starting pitcher Greg Schneider was voted to the second team and senior relief pitcher Nick Huff was listed on the third team.

Frostburg finished its '16 campaign last week in the New York Regional of the NCAA Tournament. FSU capped the year with a 30-14 overall record and were ranked for 10 weeks in D3baseball.com's Top 25 weekly poll.

Both Hockaday and Bell shook off injuries during the spring to be named to the first team and the duo proved to be Frostburg's top two hitters.

Hockaday led the Bobcats in batting average (.399), one-base percentage (.500), runs scored (48), hits (55), doubles (12), triples (4) and total bases (96), while Bell paced the team in slugging percentage (.813), RBI (44) and home runs (13).

The pair also appear among Division III's top hitters. Bell is ranked seventh nationally in home runs (13), just one shy of tying the school record. Hockaday, meanwhile, is 11th in the country in runs per game (1.33) and 38th in slugging percentage (0.696).

Both Hockaday and Bell were First Team All-Capital Athletic Conference honorees.

A D3baseball.com Preseason All-American, Schneider was named to the All-South Region Second Team. He finished the spring season with a 6-2 overall record on the mound with 91 strikeouts, one save and a 3.49 ERA.

Schneider finished 5th nationally in strikeouts per nine innings (12.22) and 14th in the country in total strikeouts. He led the CAC in both categories.

Huff emerged as arguably the nation's top closer as he finished second in the nation in saves (12), both a Frostburg and CAC single-season record. Huff finished the season 4-2 overall with 22 strikeouts and a 2.25 ERA. He was 24th in Division III in pitching appearances (22) this season.

Both Schneider and Huff were also First Team All-CAC award winners.
