Oxy Beats Schreiner, Wins Fifth in a Row

LOS ANGELES — Michael Netzel went 2 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs, and Dean Abramson kept up his outstanding work out of the bullpen, leading the Occidental baseball team to a 7-3 win over Schneider in a non-conference game at Anderson Field on Saturday.

Season Impact: The Tigers, which have won five in a row, improve to 11-5 overall.

Schneider, a member of the SCAC from Kerrville, Texas, drops to 8-9.

The Tigers jumped on the Mountaineers from the start, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning and never relinquishing the lead.

Eamon McNeilDevon DeRaadJack Brancheau and Bryan Smith all went 2 for 4 for the Tigers. Jeff Oki was 1 for 4 with a pair of runs scored, Graham Pimm went 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run, andLiam Fischer hit the ball hard all day, going 1 for 4 with an RBI-double and a run scored. 

Oxy starter Nolan Watson looked unhittable and overpowering at times, earning the victory with 10 strikeouts in five innings of work. He was consistently sitting at 88 mph and hit 90 in the top of the first inning.

Abramson, a side-arm righty, pitched the final 2.1 innings for Oxy, giving up just one hit, a walk and no runs. The junior from El Segundo has not given up an earned run in his seven appearances and eight innings pitched this season.

Next Game: Oxy is back in action against Southern Vermont in a doubleheader on Sunday, beginning at 11 a.m.
