Port Charlotte, Fla. – Keystone College improved to 3-0 at the Snowbird Classic on Saturday with a 6-4 victory over Heidelberg University. The Giants improve to 3-2 on the season with their third straight win while the Student Princes slip to 6-4 on the year.
Keystone took a 3-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning on Saturday as Ryan Callahan (Highland Mills, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) hit a two-run single through the left side of the infield before Anthony Ferrezza (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) drove in Chris Panzarella (Hazle Township, Pa./Hazleton Area) with a base hit to right field.
Heidelberg got a run back in the home sixth before tying the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning on a two-run triple off the bat of Darrin Shirk.
Brady Barr (Bowie, Md./Bowie) restored the Giants' lead with a two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning. The Student Princes got their deficit to 5-4 with an unearned run in the home half of the frame, but Keystone scored the game's final run in the visitor's ninth on a double-steal with Tony Hunter II (Savannah, Ga./South Effingham) taking second and Panzarella scoring.
Keystone starter Miguel Reyes (Bronx, N.Y./Monroe) took a no-decision after allowing one run on seven hits while striking out four batters in six innings of work. Blake DeMeter (Ocean Township, N.J./Ocean Township) yielded a pair of runs before giving way to Yeison Andujar (San Juan, P.R./Programa Educativo Alcance), who picked up the win after going 2.2 innings on the hill with one run against on two hits while fanning two batters.
Sebastian De La Cruz (Port Jervis, N.Y./Port Jervis) led the Giants with a pair of hits.
Heidelberg starter Cameron Deemer went seven innings with three runs against on five hits while Zach Doran took the loss after allowing two runs on one hit in an inning of work.
Joe Walton and Cory Jacobs had two hits apiece for the Student Princes.
Keystone will continue its spring break trip in Port Charlotte on Sunday afternoon with a contest against Amherst College starting at 1:00 p.m.
