Oxy Crushes Southern Vermont in Doubleheader

LOS ANGELES — Jamie Cooper and Jack Brancheau had a field day as the Occidental bats lit up the scoreboard for 31 runs in two wins over Southern Vermont at Anderson Field on Sunday.

Cooper hit a pair of home runs, including a Grand slam, going 4 for 5 with eight RBIs and three runs scored in a 20-0 win over Southern Vermont in seven innings in Game 1.

Brancheau was good in both games, going 4 for 7 on the day, with six RBIs, a home run, a double and two runs scored. His homer and double both came during an eight-run bottom of the fourth inning that brought Oxy back from a 5-1 deficit and ignited the blow out in Game 2.

Nolan McCarthy struck out five batters in three innings, earning the win in Game 2.

Josh Cohen was outstanding in the first game, pitching six scoreless, with just three hits, no walks and six strikeouts for the victory. 

Oxy's biggest rally of the day was a nine-run fifth inning in Game 1.

Graham Pimm played well at shortstop and went 5 for 9 with five runs scored, a double and an RBI.

Oxy racked up 26 hits in the two games.

Season Impact: The Tigers win their sixth and seventh games in a row, moving to 13-5 overall.

Southern Vermont goes to 2-4.

Next Game: The Tigers are back in action on March 18 against Ithaca at 2 p.m.
