William Paterson Baseball Loses to McDaniel, 11-0

AUBURNDALE, FLA. – The William Paterson baseball team (5-4-1) suffered an 11-0, eight-inning loss to McDaniel (4-4) March 15 at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

 

The Green Terror took control of the game with seven runs on seven hits, a walk and a sacrifice during the bottom of the third inning.

 

McDaniel added one more run in the sixth, using three consecutive two-out singles and a bases-loaded hit by pitch.

 

The Green Terror finished the scoring with a three-run eighth, taking advantage of a pinch-hit double to clear the loaded bases.

 

Senior center fielder Mike Abate (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Hills), senior first baseman Eriq Colón (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) and freshman second baseman Matt Ferrara (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) accounted for WP's three hits.

 

Junior Bryan Kopko (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) gave up seven runs on eight hits and two walks, striking out three in 2.2 innings (0-2). Sophomore Jeff Lombardi (Kendall Park, N.J./South Brunswick) tossed the final 5.0 innings and surrendered nine hits, one walk and four runs while collecting three strikeouts.

 

Senior third baseman Michael Gallagher led McDaniel with a 3-for-5 effort, scoring three times.

 

Sophomore Robbie Mays pitched the complete game, striking out five and walking one (1-0).

 

William Paterson will take on No. 6 Wisconsin-Whitewater Thursday, March 16, at 9:30 a.m. at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.
