New Paltz Baseball Falls at No. 21 Rowan 3-0

GLASSBORO, N.J. – Junior designated hitter Chris Moran (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) finished 2-for-3 on Monday afternoon for the State University of New York at New Paltz baseball team but the Hawks fell at No. 21 Rowan 3-0 in non-conference action.

Moran picked up a single through the right side in the top of the second and followed that with a single to center in the ninth. The junior also drew a walk in the fifth.

After Moran, New Paltz (4-4) managed just four other hits (six in total) as junior Jake Williams (Seaford, N.Y./Seaford) ripped a double to right in the sixth while junior Dwayne Page (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) and freshman Anthony Amoroso (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe Woodbury) both enjoyed base knocks. Junior Brian Brenton (Calverton, N.Y./Riverhead) tallied a pinch-hit single in the eighth.

On the mound, junior lefty Brian LoRusso (Garden City, N.Y./Garden City) earned the start and suffered the defeat as the southpaw tossed five frames, giving up seven hits and three runs while walking two and striking out one.

Freshman John LoCurto (Westbury, N.Y./Carle Place) appeared out of the bullpen and threw three scoreless frames while allowing just one hit.

Meanwhile for the Profs (11-5), Andrew Cartier picked up the win, going eight innings, while Rob Grilli came on in the ninth and earned the save.

Rowan scored on an RBI single in the fourth and tacked on two more runs in the fifth with a single to center and a sacrifice fly.

The Hawks will next return to action at Plattsburgh in SUNYAC action from March 24-25.
