Hernandez, Fitzgerald Push #25 Kean Past Farmingdale

Farmingdale, N.Y. (3/23/17) – Junior Jim Fitzgerald was 3-for-4 while rookie Justin Hernandez improved to 4-0 as the Kean University baseball team defeated Farmingdale State College by the final of 6-2 on Thursday.

Hernandez (4-0) allowed six hits and two unearned runs with three strikeouts and three walks in eight innings of work.

#25 Kean used a balanced scoring attack, plating runs in the first, second, third, fourth and seventh innings.

In the first Fitzgerald reached on a one out single and eventually scored on a Nick Polizzano single.  Derek Walker made it 2-0 in the second plating Austin Arndt who reached on a double.

The Cougars extended the lead to 4-0 in the third with a bases loaded RBI fielder's choice from Polizzano and a Rams miscue.  Fitzgerald pushed the lead to five with an RBI single in the fourth.

Farmingdale (3-7) erased the shutout in the fifth with two unearned runs.

Frank Urso added insurance in the seventh with a bases loaded sac fly for what would be the final.

Fitzgerald added an RBI and three runs scored while Walker was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored.

Kean returns to action on Friday when they host the College of Staten Island (note venue change).
