Scranton Drops Final Game Against Susquehanna In 10 Innings, 4-3

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The University of Scranton baseball team battled into extra innings on Sunday, but could not push the winning run across in a 4-3 loss to Susquehanna in 10 innings in the final game of the three-game Landmark Conference series.

The River Hawks (9-8, 3-0 Landmark) scored the winning run in the bottom of the 10th on a sacrifice fly to complete the three-game sweep. The game was played at Juniata College due to unplayable field conditions at both schools.

Scranton (8-8, 0-3 Landmark) held leads of 2-0 after the top of the fourth and 3-1 after the top of the fifth, but Susquehanna tied the game with runs in the bottom of the fifth and bottom of the seventh.

Freshman designated hitter Kevin Haag (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining/Bridgton Academy) had an RBI double and junior outfielder Chase Standen (Newtown, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) followed with an RBI single in the fourth for Scranton. Senior outfielder Anthony Simone (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley Senior) had an RBI single in the fifth for the Royals.

Senior shortstop Patrick O'Dell (Phoenixville, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) had three hits, two stolen bases and a run to lead Scranton. Standen, Simone and junior outfielder Tommy Trotter (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) each had two hits.

Junior righty Anthony Caladie (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) had a solid start on the mound, allowing three runs, one earned, on five hits while striking out four in six innings. Freshman righty Casey Jacobson (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) was the hard-luck loser, allowing a run on one hit and three walks while striking out one in 3 1/3 innings of relief.

The Royals are scheduled to be back in action on Wednesday, March 29, when they host Muhlenberg at 3:30 p.m.
