CCC Rookie of the Week: Patrick Maybach

More news about: Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) has selected Salve Regina University freshman Patrick Maybach (No. Kingstown, R.I.) as its rookie of the week for baseball (March 20-26).

Rookie of the Week - Maybach made his second collegiate start (following a near no-hitter in his debut in Florida - a complete-game, nine-inning shutout on two hits allowed after eight and two-thirds of no-hit ball) with another seven innings of shutout ball. Maybach scattered five hits (walked none) and picked off two baserunners as Salve Regina defeated Keene State, 7-3. In the outing, Maybach struck out 10 Owls to raise his season total to 21 Ks in 16 innings pitched.

"Pat has Little League type numbers his first two collegiate starts," fourth-year head coach Eric Cirella commented. "I knew he would be good but never this good, this soon. And what impresses me more than the strikes he throws with four quality pitches, is how calm and confident he is on the mound and how he handles adversity. I love watching him pitch and his teammates do, too. And I can't remember a Salve pitcher who has created this much excitement after his first two collegiate starts ever. But Pat needs to stay level headed and continue to work on his craft - something I think he takes a lot of pride in as a pitcher."

Defending conference champion Salve Regina (10-2, 2-0 CCC) has won five straight including sweeping a pair over No. 22/30 Western New England on Saturday. The Seahawks return to action on Wednesday when they host the Rams of Framingham State on Reynolds Field (3:30 p.m.).
