CCC Pitcher of the Week: Jimmy Fitzgerald

More news about: Salve Regina

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) has selected Salve Regina University junior Jimmy Fitzgerald (Canton, Mass.) as its pitcher of the week for baseball (March 20-26).

Pitcher of the Week - Fitzgerald improved his season record to 3-0 with a 1-0 complete-game victory over No. 22/30 Western New England on Saturday. He allowed just five hits while striking out nine Golden Bears in seven innings.

"Fitz was huge for us this weekend in our CCC opener against a very talented and well-coached WNE team," fourth-year head coach Eric Cirella commented. "I am proud of how he has worked and gone about his business the past two years to get to where he is now. His work ethic and focus are sneaky good. He is quietly becoming one of the premier arms in New England and it is a tribute to Jimmy's hunger for the game that he loves ... and wants to keep playing after college. He has come so far from Day One of his freshman year, and his ceiling keeps getting higher as well."

Defending conference champion Salve Regina (10-2, 2-0 CCC) has won five straight including sweeping a pair over nationally-ranked Golden Bears on Saturday. The Seahawks return to action on Wednesday when they host the Rams of Framingham State on Reynolds Field (3:30 p.m.).
