Belton, Texas – A seven-run second inning was all the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team needed as the Cru topped Belhaven 9-4 Saturday afternoon in Belton. UMHB completes the series sweep of the Blazers and improves to 13-12 overall and 7-5 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. Belhaven drops to 16-12 overall and 7-8 in the ASC with the loss.

Belhaven took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Cru answered with Ty Johnson's RBI fielder's choice and Mitch Patterson's RBI single in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead. Ryan Wesson's solo homer tied the game in the top of the second before UMHB erupted. Dakota Best's RBI single opened the scoring and Landon Dieterich followed with a two-run single. Johnson singled home the fourth run of the inning and Mark Frankhouser ripped a three-run homer over the left field wall to make it 9-2 Cru. Will Costinett's two-run homer in the top of the third cut it to 9-4, but the pitchers settled down and both teams went scoreless the rest of the way.

Evan Samoff scattered six hits and struck out six to earn his first collegiate victory for UMHB. Jackson Godoy had three hits for the Cru and Best, Johnson and Patterson added two hits apiece. Hunter Sanford took the loss for Belhaven and Terrell Hodges had two of the Blazers' seven hits in the game.

The Cru will travel to San Antonio to take on Trinity University in a non-conference game on Tuesday. UMHB will then return home to host Howard Payne in a three-game ASC series next weekend.
