PLYMOUTH, Mass. - The Nichols College baseball team split a doubleheader with Lyndon State College in a non-conference action Sunday afternoon at Plymouth North High School. The Bison took Game 1 4-0 before dropping Game 2, 4-2.

The Bison are a win ahead of the pace that they set a year ago after winning a program-best 24 games.

Game 1

Sophomore Danny Hayden (East Greenwich, R.I.) was dominant as he pitched a complete game shutout – allowing just three hits while striking out two. Hayden moves to 3-1 on the season as he has pitched a team-high 29 innings so far this year.

Freshman Kyle Bouchard (Fall River, Mass.) earned his ninth multi-hit game of the season as he finished 2-for-3 – with ultimately the game-winning RBI-double in the first inning that brought home senior Tim Ford (Stafford Springs, Conn.).

Ford along with juniors Cam Cook (Phoenixville, Pa.) and Nick Roy (Middletown, Conn.) all picked up a hit along with scoring a run and driving a run in.

The Hornets – who only had three hits in the game – were led by junior Trevor Markey (Ocoee, Fla.) with a pair of hits and senior Andre Eason Jr. (Waterbury, Conn.) who finished 1-for-3.

Senior Jeff Williams (Gilsum, New Hampshire) took the loss after allowing four runs (none earned) through 4.2 innings of work on seven hits while striking out three.

Game 2

Freshman Christian Naccari (Ossining, N.Y.) finished the game with three of the Bison's six hits while Cook and Roy had a hit and a run scored as the Nichols baseball team dropped Game 2 of the doubleheader with Lyndon State.

Despite outhitting the Hornets 6-4, the Bison were unable to score any runs outside of the first inning. Lyndon State tied the game up on an RBI-triple by freshman Codi Smith (Hartford, Vermont) and scored a play later on an error by freshmanChristopher Cerniglia (Monroe, N.J.) at shortstop on what proved to be the game-winning run.

Junior Vincent Amato (Brooklyn, N.Y.) pitched the complete game – allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits while walking one and striking out three.

Sophomore Zak Johnson (East Hampton, Conn.) took the win after surrendering just a pair of runs in the first inning before settling down to blank the Bison over the next three frames. Junior Andrew Whalen (Cumberland, R.I.) earned his fourth save of the season.
