GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Baseball team scored a 11-3 victory over Cairn University Monday afternoon in the Griffins official home opener.

A pair of freshmen sparked the Griffins as starting pitcher R.J. Boyle earned his first collegiate win working a strong six and two thirds innings on the mound striking out a pair of Highlander batters. Outfielder Bobby Heck went 4-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs and three runs scored. His three-run homerun in the second inning lit a fire under the Griffin offense for the afternoon.

Justin CurtinDave TatoianRyan Keen and Nick Mulvey each had a pair of hits on the day.

Leading 3-0 in the third thanks to Heck's homerun the Griffins would add a run on a sac fly from Justin Forktus for the 4-0 lead.

GMercyU opened things up in the fifth, plating six runs for a 10-0 lead. A Josh Lopez solo homerun would get the inning started as the squad batted around. RBI's from Nick Mulvey (triple), Heck (single), Curtin (double), Tatoian (double) and Keen (single) sparked the seven-hit frame.

Cairn would get runs back in the sixth and seventh innings but a Tatoian RBI single in the seventh would cap the Griffin run total.

The Griffins return back to action on Wednesday when they travel to Albright for 3:30 p.m. non-conference matchup.
