GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.--The Adrian College baseball team clubbed four home runs among 32 hits on Saturday to win both ends of a twinbill over Calvin College, 10-2 and 11-5, completing a four-game sweep of their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association series.

TOP 'DAWGS
= Senior Ian Mikowski was 6-for-9 at the leadoff spot during the doubleheader.
= Sophomore Jason Schroeder improved to 4-0 on the season in Game 1 after striking out seven batters in 5-1/3 innings. He scattered six hits and walked three that led to two runs.
= Junior Hunter Hayes had three extra-base hits--a home run and pair of doubles--with three runs batted in during the afternoon.
= Freshman Tristin Richardson matched Hayes with three RBI on the day, collecting four hits.
= Classmate Gunner Rainey went 3-for-3 with two runs scored in the opener and followed up with two more hits and a RBI in the nightcap.
= In the nightcap, freshman pitcher Spencer Ford picked up the win (2-0) in relief. He scattered eight hits, five walks and three runs over 6-2/3 innings. He had three strikeouts.
THE OPPOSITION
= Johnny Salgado led Calvin with four hits in the two contests.
= Mike Kempton, Kyle Houts and Ryan Stewart added three apiece during the twinbill.
= Josh Sterenberg came off the bench in Game 2 to deliver a two-run single.
HOW IT HAPPENED, Game 1
= With the score knotted at 1-1 in the top of the second inning, Adrian senior Miccoy Drzewiecki belted a three-run home run to left field for what proved to be the game-winning RBI.
= The Bulldogs blew the game open with five runs in the sixth, highlighted by a pair of two-run homers by Hayes and Richardson.
= Calvin took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Nate DeZwaan doubled down the left field line to plate Matt Kotva.
= The Knights could have added more off Schroeder, but left the bases loaded while he struck out the side to prevent further damage.
= Calvin had plenty of scoring chances but left 10 men on base. The Knights threatened again in the bottom of the sixth, trailing by eight runs. Relief pitcher Tyler Gnodtke, a sophomore, came in with two Knights in scoring position and did a terrific job of not giving up any more runs, getting Wolfe to pop up and DeZwaan to ground out to end the frame.
HOW IT HAPPENED, Game 2
= Adrian overcame a 2-0 deficit to win going away, scoring four times in the top of the fifth to take the lead for good, 6-2, and five more in the seventh and eighth to take control, 11-2.
= Senior Ryan Dorow broke a 2-2 tie with a RBI-single to spark the four-run fifth, which included six hits. Sophomore Dugan Darnell had what stood up to be the game-winning hit with a three-run blast over the right field fence to greet new pitcher Trevor VanDuyn.
= The Bulldogs equalized 2-2 in the fourth when Hayes drove a RBI-double to left-center field and Rainey had a RBI-single through the right side.
= Calvin had taken a 2-0 advantage in the bottom of the second inning. Kotva reached on a fielder's choice to drive home Stewart and Colton Wolfe had a RBI-single up the middle.
= The Knights had 14 runners left on base.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
= The Bulldogs are "receiving votes" (16 points) in the Week 6 D3baseball.com Top 25 poll. The team has won three of four games versus nationally-ranked competition so far this spring.
= Drzewiecki tied Wolfe (and Drew Palmer of Trine) for the MIAA home run lead with five apiece.
= Dorow and Drzewiecki rank 1-2 in the MIAA with 27 and 24 RBI, respectively. The latter tied his previous career high when he also had 24 driven in during his 2015 sophomore year.
= Mikowski batted .625 (10-16) during the series against Calvin.
= Adrian has achieved 20 hits in a game four times this season.
= The Bulldogs have a nine-game winning streak for their longest since the 2012 squad won 14 in a row from April 12 to May 4.
= Bolstered by 54 hits on the weekend, Adrian raised its team batting average 16 points to .343.

= Adrian will host NAIA-scholarship Siena Heights University in an intra-city non-conference matchup at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Nicolay Field.
