BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – No. 3 Birmingham-Southern baseball swept Southern Athletic Association rival Berry College in a conference doubleheader Saturday that moved the Panthers one step closer to clinching the regular season title. BSC (26-5, 13-1 SAA) is currently in first place in the league with seven games left. The wins today secured the Panthers at least a No. 2 seed in the tournament they will host.
Will Toner (Atlanta, Ga./Marist HS), Tyler Wise (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park HS), and David Scott (Atlanta, Ga./Woodward Academy) each finished with three hits on the day. Toner went a team-best .500 with three runs and two RBI. Wise earned a game-high five RBI and a run. Two of Scott's three hits were doubles. He also finished with a run and went a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen bases.
Ryan Gaines (Dunwoody, Ga./Dunwoody HS) earned the game one win to improve to 7-0. He struck out a team-best three batters and finished with a 1.50 ERA. Stephen Himic (Birmingham, Ala./Indian Springs HS) moved to 8-0 on the year with his game two win. And Easton Fuller (Fairhope, Ala./Alexandria HS) picked up his second save of the season going 1.2 innings to close out game one.
The series concludes on Sunday, April 9 with a single game slated for 1 p.m. on Striplin Field.
