ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College baseball team secured a 14-6 win against Elmira College in the first game of a three-game Empire 8 Conference weekend series at Dunn Field on Saturday afternoon. Ithaca improves its record to 10-7 on the season and 3-2 in the Empire 8, while Elmira drops to 6-8 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

Senior Trevor Thompson gave the Bombers an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first with a ringing double to left field with classmate Josh Savacool in scoring position. Savacool led off the game with a base hit and then stole second.

Ithaca added a run in the second inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of sophomore Matt Carey to bring in junior Domenic Boresta, who tripled in his plate appearance.

After Elmira got on the board in the bottom of the third, the Bombers answered with a combined 11 runs in the fifth and sixth innings to make the score 13-1.

Carey started the rally in the fifth with a lead-off walk and then sophomore Adam Gallagher followed with a single. Sophomore Sam Little brought home Thompson with a single to give Ithaca a 5-1 advantage, and then senior Ryan Henchey capped off the inning with a two-run home run to left field.

Gallagher tacked on the first run for the Bombers in the sixth, as he led off with a solo homer to left. The inning continued on a single by Savacool and free passes issued to Thompson and S. Little to load the bases. Henchey stepped up to the dish and cleared the bases with a double to left to put Ithaca up by 10 runs, 11-1. After a pitching change, sophomore Andrew Bailey stroked a single up the middle to push home Henchey. The Bombers' final run of the frame scored on a bases loaded walk to freshman Ben Kutler with Bailey on third.

The Bombers' final run of the game crossed the plate in the eighth inning, as sophomore Garrett Snyder ripped a double to right field and fellow sophomore Jake Generali scored on the hit. Kutler picked up his first career base hit in the eighth inning.

Elmira added two runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth to account for the final score of 14-6.

Ithaca finished the afternoon with 19 hits, including nine for extra bases. Savacool and Thompson each had three-hit games, while Bailey, Boresta, Gallagher, Henchey and Snyder all recorded two hits apiece.
