Case Western Reserve University clinched a series win over New York University on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Violets 15-4 in seven innings at MCU Park in Brooklyn, New York in the last game of the four-game weekend series.

The Spartans won three of the four games against NYU, improving to 15-12 overall and to 9-3 in University Athletic Association play.  It marked CWRU's ninth win in their last 10 games, and their 13^th victory in the team's last 16 games.  The Violets fell to 12-7 overall and 1-3 in the UAA with the loss.

Case Western Reserve finished the game with 12 hits, while drawing nine walks and stealing six bases on Sunday, en route to the win.  Each player in the team's starting nine reached base at least twice in the game.

Senior outfielder Tony Damiano went two-for-four with a double, a walk, three runs scored and three stolen bases, and freshman first baseman Casey McConihe added a three-for-four day with two runs and an RBI.  Sophomore designated hitter Tyler Wypsizenski drove in two runs in the game, increasing his team-leading total to 24 this season, while senior outfielder Aaron Cain, sophomore shortstop Rocco Maue and junior second baseman Alex Capetillo each had a pair of runs batted in on Sunday as well.

The Spartans struck first in Sunday's contest, scoring runs in the first inning on an RBI groundout by Wypiszenski and a two-out run scoring single by senior catcher Eric Eldred.  NYU responded in the inning with a run on a two-out double by Jonathan Iaione, cutting the Spartans' lead to 2-1.

Back-to-back two-out doubles by Damiano and Wypiszenski added a run to the CWRU lead in the top of the third.  In the fourth, Maue drove in sophomore third baseman Jacob Kucia with a base hit, and Capetillo followed with a sacrifice fly to plate McConihe, pushing the CWRU lead to 5-1.  NYU would score a pair in the bottom of the fourth, pulling back to within two runs of the Spartans.

However, Case Western Reserve broke the game open in the top of the fifth, sending 12 batters to the plate and scoring seven runs off five different NYU pitchers in the frame to take a 12-3 lead.  McConihe, Maue, Capetillo and Cain all drove in runs for CWRU during the inning.  The Spartans added three more in the sixth to increase their lead to 15-3.

NYU scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to pull within 11 runs, but would not get any closer, with the game ending after seven innings by virtue of the 10-run rule.

CWRU sophomore Corey Brown picked up the win with 2.1 innings of relief, allowing one run on five hits to improve to 1-0 on the season.  The loss went to NYU starter Chad Johnstone, who dropped to 1-1, despite surrendering just three runs in three innings of work.

Case Western Reserve will return home for a key conference series against 18^th-ranked Washington University (Mo.), the team's final UAA games of the season.  With Washington currently leading the conference title race with a 4-0 record in UAA play, the Spartans can clinch the UAA Championship with a sweep of the Bears in the four-game series.  The first game of weekend is slated for a 3:00 p.m. start on Friday, April 14^th at Nobby's Ballpark in Cleveland.
