Keuka College Sweeps Home Opener against Medaille

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Baseball swept their home opener at Kuhl Field on Monday defeating Medaille College 11-10 and 10-6 in a pair of non-conference games.

Jake Redding (Victor, N.Y. / Victor), Dakota Skinner (Waverly, N.Y. / Tioga), and Rob LaRue (Skillman, N.J. / Montgomery) each had four hits on the day for (8-8, 2-0 NEAC). Redding also worked three walks and was on base seven out of nine plate appearances.

Kevin Franz (Vestal, N.Y. / Vestal) got the win in Game 1, going four innings and striking out three. It was just the fourth start of the junior's career. He entered Monday with 25 career relief appearances. Freshman Ken Howe (Mount Morris, N.Y. / Mount Morris) got the win in game two throwing 3.1 innings of relief for his first career win.

Keuka College 11 vs. Medaille College 10

Keuka College got out to an early lead over Medaille College as the Wolves plated five runs in the bottom of the first. Keuka used a pair of Maverick errors and got a big, two-run double by John Rizzo (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn) in the inning. Medaille got one back in the top of the second, but the Wolves had a response in the third. Jake Redding hits a two-run single through the left side of the infield to give Keuka College a 7-1 lead. Keuka took am 11-5 lead into the seventh inning. Medialle College made it interesting with five runs in the frame but the tying run was stranded on base as Dakota Skinner made a diving catch in right field for the third out of an 11-10 Keuka victory.

Lead Wolf: Jake Redding set the table for Keuka College. The team's leadoff batter, Redding had three singles in the game. He drove in a pair of runs and scored two runs as well.

Keuka College 10 vs. Medaille College 6

A big first inning stood for the Wolves once again in Game 2. Keuka College plated four in the frame on four straight RBI hits. Dave Nuzzo (Manlius, N.Y. / Fayetteville-Manlius) and Tyler Krowiak (Endwell, N.Y. / Seton Catholic) hit back-to-back RBI doubles. Those were followed by back-to-back RBI singles by Rob LaRue and Brooks Vertoske (Horseheads, N.Y. / Horseheads). After Medaille got two runs in the third, Keuka College had another four run inning in the bottom of the third. That created the separation for Keuka College as the Wolves continued onto the 10-6 victory.

Lead Wolf: Catcher Tyler Krowiak had a pair of extra-base hits in the game for Keuka College. He had a double and a triple in the game. The sophomore also scored two runs, drove in a run, and stole a base in the win.

  • With his double and triple in Game 2, Tyler Krowiak set a new career-high with five total bases
  • Rob LaRue stole his 21st career base on Monday. He passed Mike Hutchings '12 for fourth most in school history

Coming up for Keuka College: The Wolves will be on the road next as they travel to Hilbert College for a doubleheader on Thursday. Keuka College is 16-8 against the Hawks all-time and have won the last four meetings.
