Union, N.J. (4/11/17) – Freshman Austin Arndt helped himself to a win on the mound with a two RBI double in the eighth to tie the game at six-all as the Kean University baseball team went on to win by the final of 7-6 over Drew University on Tuesday night.

The Cougars (17-10) trailed 6-2 heading into the bottom of the eighth.  Frank LoGuidice and Derek Walker started off the frame with back-to-back singles and catcher Brian Cole walked to load the bases with no outs.  After a pitching change, junior Matt Krupa lined a single for an RBI to make it 6-3.  With the bases still loaded, rookie Nick Polizzano was hit by a pitch and collected an RBI to inch closer, 6-4.  After an out, Arndt entered the lineup for his first at-bat and proceeded to tie the score up at six-all with a double to left.  With first base now open, the Rangers (15-8) elected to intentionally walk Frank Urso to reload the bases and create the force.  Mike Fidanza perfectly placed a bunt for the go-ahead RBI for what would be the winning run.

Tyler Hopman entered in the ninth and worked around a two out single by picking off the runner at first for the final out and his first save of the season.

Arndt (1-2) earned the win on the mound after one and two thirds innings of relief.  He allowed one run and one hit and fanned four.

Offensively Krupa and LoGuidice each had three hits for Kean.

For the Rangers, Tommy Broyles was 3-for-5 with an RBI, double and run scored.

Kean returns to NJAC play on Thursday when they host Montclair State.
