GWYNEDD VALLEY, PA. -- Gwynedd Mercy posted a 5-1 victory over Penn State-Abington on Thursday in a non-conference matchup.

Starter Zach Dennis threw scoreless baseball into the sixth, as he gave up just five hits, while striking out two and not allowing a walk for his second win on the season. Jason
Mulvey and Nick Mulvey were both 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and an RBI in the win.

The Griffins (13-10-1) took advantage of six errors by the Lions. In the second, GMercyU scored twice, both coming with two outs. With runners on the corners, Shaughn Wright scored from third on a throw down to second which got away from the second baseman. One batter, later, Jason Mulvey knocked in Tommy Nardini with a base hit to left.

In the third, three Penn State errors helped Gwynedd cross another run. Justin Curtin reached on an error at shortstop, then move up to second on an errant pickoff attempt by PSU starter Mike McDermott. After stealing third base, Curtin scored on an error at second with a ball hit from Ryan Keen.

Dennis didn't allow his first hit until the fourth but he would later work out of a bases-loaded spot with one out, getting an inning-ending double play from Curtin to Keen.

Curtin scored on a sac fly to center off the bat of Josh Lopez in the fifth for a 4-0 lead.

With two outs and the bases loaded in the sixth, Jared Gorman entered for Dennis, and induced a groundout to end the threat.

Penn State-Abington scored their lone run in the seventh, on an RBI single from Stevie Stevenson.

In the eighth, Wright reached base on his second walk of the game. Nardini then popped up to shallow centerfield, but the double up attempt back to first from the second baseman went out of play to move Wright up to third. Nick Mulvey knocked Wright home with a double to plate Wright for the 5-1 edge.

Sachael Sciarretta worked a 1-2-3 eighth and Dave Tatoian did the same in the ninth to wrap up the win.

Wright and Curtin both scored twice. Curtin also swiped two bases.

The Griffins turn their attention to Saturday, where they'll host Centenary in a CSAC Doubleheader starting at noon.
