Migliorini Helps #13 R-MC Baseball Split ODAC DH at EMU

HARRISONBURG, Va. - Junior Cole Migliorini (Stafford, Va./Colonial Forge) had four hits and five RBI, including a late three-run homer in the nightcap, as the 13th-ranked Randolph-Macon baseball team split an ODAC doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Eastern Mennonite.

The Yellow Jackets (23-8, 11-4 ODAC) dropped the opener 6-5 before posting a 9-7 win over the Royals (16-16, 4-10 ODAC) in the nightcap.

Miglioroni had three hits and two RBI in Game 1. His three-run homer in the top of the ninth in Game 2 provided the eventual game-winning margin.

R-MC trailed 1-0 after two in the second game before erupting for four runs in the third. Sophomore Jeff Butler (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) and senior Stuart Brown (Midlothian, Va./Trinity) had sacrifice flies, junior Rick Spiers (South Chesterfield, Va./Matoaca) had a run-scoring single and freshman Ryan Duphorn (Erial, N.J./Paul VI) scored on a wild pitch.

The Royals tallied two in the fourth and one in the fifth before the Yellow Jackets took the lead for good in the sixth. Freshman Zach Evans (Fort Mill, S.C./Seneca) and Duphorn had RBI singles to give the visitors a 6-4 advantage.

After EMU pulled within one in the seventh, Migliorini's three-run dinger in the ninth extended the lead to 9-5 before the Royals put up two in the bottom of the ninth to make the final 9-7.

Duphorn went 3 for 4 with two runs and one RBI, while Spiers scored twice.

Sophomore Nick Roth III (Henrico, Va./Benedictine) earned the win, going 5.0 innings with eight hits, four runs and three strikeouts to improve to 4-0. Spiers (2.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, BB, 3 K) notched his sixth save.

In Game 1, Migliorini had an RBI single in the first to give R-MC an early lead. EMU put up single runs in the second and fourth before a two-run single by Spiers put R-MC on top 3-2. The Royals scored in the sixth and seventh to reclaim the lead at 4-3.

Brown's RBI double in the eighth plated Migliorini with the tying run. After EMU leveled the score in the bottom of the eighth, Migliorini delivered a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth to tie the game at 5-5. EMU plated the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth for a 6-5 win.

Migliorini went 3 for 5 with one run and two RBI, while Spiers also knocked in a pair. Duphorn and Butler both had three hits, while Brown doubled twice for the Yellow Jackets.

Randolph-Macon had a make-up home game with Catholic on Monday, April 17 at 4 p.m. on Hugh Stephens Field at Estes Park.
