Thomas More Drops Third Game of Series With No. 17 W&J

(CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.) – The Thomas More College baseball team fell to No. 17-ranked Washington & Jefferson College, 14-9, today (Saturday, April 15, 2017) in the final game of a three-game Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) series at Thomas More Field in Crestview Hills, Kentucky.

With the loss, the Saints fall to 17-6 overall and 8-3 in the PAC.  With the win, the Presidents improve to 18-5 overall and 13-2 in the PAC.  Despite today's loss, Thomas More won the three game series as it swept a doubleheader yesterday.

W&J scored one run in the second, 10 in the sixth and added one run in the seventh, one in the eighth and one in the ninth as it held Thomas More to two runs in the first, third and fourth innings and three in the seventh for the 14-9 win.

Thomas More was led at the plate by junior second baseman Ben Laumann (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills), who was five-for-six with two home runs, a double, four runs scored and five runs batted-in.  Two other Saints had multiple hits in the game as senior center fielder Casey Metzger (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) was four-for-five with a double and four runs scored and junior third baseman Bailey Abbatiello (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) was two-for-five with a home run, a double, a run scored and a RBI.

Junior pitcher Brandon Eliadis (Lawrenceburg, Ky./Anderson County) started and had a no-decision as he pitched five innings and gave up five runs (all earned) on 10 hits and struck out three.  Sophomore pitcher Jonathan Breeden (Erlanger, Ky./Dixie Heights) suffered the loss as he gave up three runs (all earned) on one hit.

Thomas More returns to action on Tuesday (April 28) when it travels to Grove City, Pennsylvania to play Grove City College in a PAC doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
