PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State baseball team lost 3-1 and 1-0 against SUNY New Paltz in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) doubleheader at Chip Cummings Field on Tuesday. The Cardinals slide to 6-17 overall and 0-11 in the league, while the Hawks improve to 14-12 and 7-7.

Plattsburgh State junior Noah Clark (Toms River, N.J./Toms River East/Caldwell) went 3-for-5 with a run scored and stole a base, while freshman Kentaro Mori (Tokyo, Japan/Joto) went 2-for-3 with a walk in the opener. Senior T.J. Montalbano (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West/Jefferson CC) singled, walked and put down a sacrifice bunt and sophomore Patrick Bryant (Center Moriches, N.Y./Center Moriches/Hofstra) singled and walked. Sophomore Matt Fox (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) had a no decision after yielding just one run on six hits in six innings, while junior Jacob Stein (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore/Suffolk County CC) took the loss in 1.2 innings of relief.

New Paltz junior Chris Moran singled and had two sacrifice flies and sophomore Justin Ganca doubled twice. Junior Dwayne Page went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs scored, while freshman Savino Citriniti singled and walked. Junior Brian LoRusso tossed 3.2 innings of scoreless relief innings for the win.

The Cardinals had runners at second and third with no outs in the bottom of the second inning, but starter junior Kyle Eckert struck out back-to-back Cardinal batters to stave off the threat. New Paltz plated the game's opening run in the sixth on Moran's one-out sac fly to center field that scored Page. The hosts responded in the home half on a failed pickoff attempt at third base that allowed Clark to scoot home.

The Hawks jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the eighth on junior Jake Williams's one-out RBI single and on Moran's second sac fly of the game. Plattsburgh State loaded the bases in the ninth, but LoRusso induced a game-ending popup to the shortstop to seal the victory.

Montalbano went 2-for-3 in game two and Mori provided a single and a walk. Freshman Alex Follmer (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) walked and stole a base and senior Ray Flynn (Bethpage, N.Y./Plainedge) was hit by a pitch. Bryant endured another tough loss on the hill after allowing just one run on four hits while striking out six batters in a seven-inning complete-game effort.

Citriniti, Moran, Williams and junior Tyler Laco all singled for New Paltz, with Laco adding one run scored. Junior Ryan Votypka fired a complete-game three-hit shutout with four strikeouts.

The Cardinals were cut down trying to take home in the bottom of the first and that was the only time that the hosts had a runner reach third base. In the third inning, New Paltz scored the game's lone run as Laco scurried home from third after junior Nick DePietro was caught in a rundown between first and second. Plattsburgh State had runners at first and second in the sixth before being retired in order in the seventh to end the game.

Plattsburgh State and New Paltz close out the series on Wednesday with a single game at 11 a.m.
