Keystone Opens Weekend Series With 11-4 Win at Cairn

Langhorne, Pa. – Keystone College opened this weekend's Colonial States Athletic Conference baseball series against Cairn University with an 11-4 victory in Langhorne on Friday afternoon.  The Giants improve to 20-9 overall and 11-2 in conference play while the Highlanders fall to 13-13 on the spring including a 3-10 mark in league contests.     

Keystone took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on Friday as Chris Panzarella (Hazle Township, Pa./Hazleton Area) hit a two-run single to right center.
 
The Giants extended their lead to 5-0 in the visitor's third by plating three runs on four hits.  Brady Barr (Bowie, Md./Bowie) connected on an RBI base hit up the middle before Austin Chaszar (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional) delivered a two-run single to center to give Keystone a five-run advantage.
 
The visitors tacked on two more runs in the top of the fifth inning as Panzarella and Chaszar both had RBI singles to push the Giants' lead to 7-0.
 
Cairn broke up Keystone's shutout bid in the bottom of the eighth inning by scoring on a wild pitch, but the Giants countered with four runs on five hits in the visitor's ninth to build a 10-run cushion. 
 
Barr hit an RBI single before Billy Nelson (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) drove in Brendan Long (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) with a sacrifice fly.  Chaszar then connected on a two-run double to center field to extend Keystone's lead to 11-1 before the Highlanders closed out the scoring with three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
 
Troy Terzi (Wallingford, Conn./Notre Dame ) improved to 6-0 on the year with another strong start for the Giants, striking out 10 batters while scattering five hits and one walk over seven scoreless innings.  Jack Simons (Great Falls, Va./The Bullis School) allowed one run on one hit and one walk in the eighth inning before Dan Maguire (Ocean Township, N.J./Ocean Township) closed out the victory with three runs against on three hits while striking out two batters in the ninth inning.
 
Barr went 4-5 with four runs scored, Chaszar was 3-5 with a game-high five RBI, and Long added three hits for Keystone, who outhit Cairn by a 16-9 margin in the victory.
 
Cairn starter Daniel Morales was charged with the loss after allowing seven runs on 11 hits in five innings on the hill while John Burlaga yielded four runs on five hits while picking up three K's over the final four innings.
 
Nathan Wilson led the Highlander with three hits on the afternoon.
 
Keystone and Cairn will close out their regular season series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at noon at Christy Mathewson Field in La Plume.
