Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team rallied late but could not come all the way back from an early deficit in a 6-2 loss to U.T. Dallas Friday night in Belton. The Cru drops to 18-15 overall and 12-7 in American Southwest Conference play following the loss. The 13th-ranked Comets move to 27-8 overall and 15-4 in the ASC with the win.

U.T. Dallas took a 2-0 lead on a run-scoring groundout and Edmundo Ojeda's RBI single in the top of the second. The Comets stretched it to 4-0 with consecutive run-scoring singles from Mitch Barati and Luke Richter in the top of the fifth. Connor Scruggs provided some breathing room with a two-run double in the top of the ninth to give UTD a 6-0 lead. The Cru scored on Josh Horton's bases loaded walk and a Caleb Davis sacrifice fly in the bottom of the inning. UMHB would threaten to add more, but left the bases loaded.

Nathan Kent took the loss for the Cru after giving up two runs on seven hits. Connor Heussner pitched five strong innings of relief for UMHB. Jaime Andriot was dominant on the mound for the Comets, giving up just two hits in eight innings of work. He struck out 10 and walked three while not giving up a run to raise his record to 8-0. Mark Frankhouser had two of UMHB's four hits in the game. Barry Casey had three hits to lead UTD's 14-hit attack.

The two teams will close out the series with a 1:00 PM doubleheader on Saturday at Red Murff Field. That will be the home finale for the Cru and UMHB will honor its six seniors between games of the doubleheader.
