New Paltz Baseball Enjoys 10-2 Win Over CCNY

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – Despite trailing 2-0 to host City College of New York on Friday, the baseball team at the State University of New York at New Paltz responded with 10 unanswered runs en route to a 10-2 non-conference win over the visiting Beavers at Loren Campbell Field.

With the victory, the Hawks improve to 15-14 overall and will host Ithaca (18-8 overall) tomorrow at 2 p.m. CCNY, meanwhile, drops to 6-16.

Overall, the Hawks pounded out nine hits, led by senior Anthony Diana (North Amawalk, N.Y./Somers), who finished 2-for-3 with two doubles, two walks and four runs scored.

Freshman Julian Francisco (Bedford Hills, N.Y./Fox Lane) finished 2-for-3 and freshman Anthony Amoroso (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) drove in two runs. As a team, the Hawks drew 10 walks and took advantage of five Beaver errors.

On the mound, New Paltz used eight pitchers as junior Jeff Sarra (Ronkonkoma, N.Y./Connetquot) earned the win in relief, scattering two hits and striking out one, throwing two innings and 23 pitches.

After giving up two runs on two hits in the first two innings, the New Paltz bullpen came through, allowing just five hits and no runs the rest of the game.
