Keystone Erupts for 26 Runs in Sweep of Highlanders

La Plume, Pa. – Keystone College's offense came alive on Saturday as the Giants scored 26 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Cairn University in a Colonial States Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader at Christy Mathewson Field.  Keystone improves to 22-9 overall and 13-2 in conference play while the Highlanders fall to 13-15 on the spring and 3-12 in the CSAC.    
 
Game 1
 
Keystone took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning of Saturday's opener as Chris Panzarella (Hazle Township, Pa./Hazleton Area) and Billy Nelson (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) scored when Bray Curreri (Eldred, N.Y./Eldred Central) reached on an error by the Highlanders.
 
The Giants broke the game open in the home third by plating nine runs on five hits and two errors to open up an 11-0 advantage.  Anthony Ferrezza (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) scored when Brady Barr (Bowie, Md./Bowie) reached on an error and Curerri hit and RBI single before Austin Chaszar (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional) hit a two-run single to give the hosts a seven-run lead.
 
Greg Gehring (New Suffolk, N.Y./Southland) had an RBI single, Barr connected on a two-run base hit, and Nelson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to give Keystone a comfortable, 11-run lead.
 
The Highlanders scored three runs on three hits and one error in the top of the fourth inning to pull to within eight runs before the Giants got those runs back in the bottom of the fifth inning with Brendan Long (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) scoring on a sacrifice fly from Panzarella before Adam Kelly (Beach Lake, Pa./Honesdale) launched a two-run home run over the left field fence to give Keystone a 14-3 lead.
 
The Giants added a pair of runs in the home sixth as Gehring scored on RBI groundout by Ferrezza before Kelly delivered and RBI base hit before Cairn closed out the scoring with an unearned run in the top of the seventh inning.  
 
Keystone starting pitcher Miguel Reyes (Bronx, N.Y./Monroe) improved to 5-1 on the season by allowing one earned run on five hits while striking out seven batters over six innings.  Steven Moran (Yonkers, N.Y./Riverside) closed out the game with an unearned run against and one K in the seventh inning.
 
Barr, Nelson, Kelly, and Gehring had two hits apiece to lead Keystone's offense with Kelly driving in a game-high three runs and Long scoring three times. 
 
Cairn starter Kameron Bradshaw was charged with the loss after surrendering seven runs on five hits over 2.1 innings before the Highlanders turned to a pair of arms out of the bullpen to get through the remainder of the game.
 
Aaron Takacs had a pair of hits to lead Cairn in the setback.
 
The Giants held a 12-5 advantage in hits for the game one victory.
 
Game 2
 
Keystone took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning of Saturday's nightcap as Panzarella drove in Long with a single before Barr scored on a wild pitch.
 
The Giants added a run in the home second as Sebastian De La Cruz (Port Jervis, N.Y./Port Jervis) scored on a wild pitch to push the host's advantage to three runs before taking a 4-0 lead in the following inning as Panzarella came home on a fielding error by Cairn after Kelly singled to left field.
 
Keystone broke the game open by scoring six runs on five hits in the bottom of the fourth inning to open up a 10-0 lead.  Barr and Panzarella both drew bases-loaded walks before Kelly hit a two-run single to right field.  Curreri and De La Cruz followed with RBI base hits to give the Giants the 10-run advantage.
 
Cairn broke up Keystone's shutout bid with an unearned run in the top of the sixth inning and added two more unearned runs in the visitor's seventh to cap the scoring.
 
Tyler Widitz (Phillipsburg, N.J./Phillipsburg), who took a no-hitter into the fifth inning of Saturday's nightcap before giving up a one-out single, improve to 3-0 on the mound after allowing just the one hit while striking out four batters in five scoreless innings. Joe DeAngelis (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) surrendered one run on one hit and one walk while fanning three batters in the sixth inning while Dylan Leahy (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) yielded one earned run on three hits in the seventh inning.
 
Kelly, Curreri, and De La Cruz had two hits apiece with Kelly and Panzarella collecting a pair of RBI each. 
 
Sam Dralle suffered the loss for Cairn after giving up 10 runs on nine hits over 3.2 innings before the visitors turned to a pair of relievers for the final 2.1 innings.
 
Jacob Allen had two hits for the Highlanders, who were again outhit by a 12-5 margin in the nightcap.

Keystone will host Misericordia University in a non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon.  First pitch between the Giants and Cougars is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at Christy Mathewson Field.
