BROCKPORT, NY — The RIT baseball team (21-7, 14-1 Liberty League) extended its school record winning streak to 14 games in defeating The College at Brockport (21-15, 11-4 SUNYAC) in 10 innings in game one of a doubleheader, before having the streak come to an end with a 5-1 loss in game two at the Clark V. Whited Complex on Wednesday afternoon.
 
"I loved the way we responded in game one to continue to fight and get an extra-innings win," said RIT head coach Rob Grow. "It was a tough second game for us, and we just got beat. We're now focused and looking forward to a big conference weekend coming up."
 
The Tigers rallied from down 5-2 in game one, coming out on top, 7-6, in 10 innings to push the winning streak to 14 games. Offensively, Brett Kajganich (North Royalton, OH/Holy Name) led the way, going 3-for-5 with an RBI and three runs scored. Daniel Zeglen (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) was right behind, going 2-for-2 with a home run, two RBIs and a pair of runs. Mike Myers (Hamlin, NY/Brockport) (two), Will Gorman (Nassau, NY/Columbia) (one), and Patrick Mylott (Aurora, OH/Western Reserve Academy) (one) each batted in runs as well.
 
Jameson Moran (Geneseo, NY/Geneseo) started the game for the Tigers, and Kyle Povlock (Fairport, NY/Fairport) came in after the first inning. Povlock went 4 1/3 innings, allowing four hits and striking out two batters. Brett Bouchard (Fairport, NY/Fairport) came in during the sixth inning and went 2 2/3 innings, striking out three batters an allowing one run on three hits. Nick Claver (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) came in for the final two innings, picking up his second win of the season, allowing just one hit and no runs, with two strikeouts.
 
For Brockport, Tom Kretzler led the offense. He went 2-for-5 with three RBIs and a run scored. Three more Golden Eagles batted in runs during the game. On the mound, Ryan Greco made the start, going three innings and allowing four runs on five hits. Nick Jerolimov got the loss for Brockport, pitching the final two innings.
 
Both teams wasted no time in the first inning, scoring a combined seven runs. The Tigers opened with a pair of scores in the top half of the frame. Gorman hit a double to left center, and came around to score on a Kajganich RBI double to right center. Two batters later, Zeglen hit Kajganich home on a single right through the middle, as RIT led 2-0 after the top of the inning.
 
In the bottom half of the inning, Brockport poured on five runs. Lou Miceli hit an RBI single, before Kretzler knocked in three runs on a bases-clearing triple to right center. The Golden Eagles added one more run on an RBI ground out by Gilbert, making it 5-2.
 
The Tigers would come back to cut the lead to one run in the third inning. Gorman led off with a solo home run to right field, his seventh of the year and 24th of his illustrious career. Five batters later, Zeglen scored on an RBI single by Mylott to center field, making it 5-4 Brockport.
 
In the fifth, RIT tied the game, 5-5, with a sacrifice fly by Myers, scoring Kajganich from third base.
 
In the top of the eighth inning, Zeglen hit a long solo home run over the left field fence, putting RIT on top 6-5. The Golden Eagles came back in the bottom half of the inning, however, and tied the game at six on an RBI single by Joe Bender off of Bouchard, who was trying to earn his fifth win of the season.
 
After neither team scored in the ninth, the Tigers scored on a sacrifice fly by Myers, which scored Kajganich , giving RIT the 7-6 lead. RIT would hold on in the bottom of the inning,
 
In game two, Brockport scored early and held the high octane RIT attack to just three hits, as the Tigers fell 5-1.
 
Gorman had the lone RBI for the Tigers in the top of the seventh inning to spoil the shutout, while Josh Henderson (Livonia, NY/Livonia) scored. Daniel Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) started the game on the bump for RIT, going three innings and striking out three batters. Connor Ewing (Fairport, NY/Fairport) pitched two innings and Tom Dillon (Oswego, NY/Oswego) fired a scoreless inning of relief.

Brooks led the offense for Brockport, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Bender and Charlie Serino also added RBIs. Mike D'Eletto started on the mound for Brockport, going four innings and picking up the win.
 
Neither team scored in the first inning, but Brockport sent two home in the bottom of the second, as Brooks singled down the right field line to drive in two runs, making it 2-0 after two. The Golden Eagles added two more runs in the fourth, on a sacrifice fly by Serino and an RBI single by Brooks. Bender would then single through the left side in the fifth inning, driving in another run and making the score 5-0. RIT added one run in the seventh inning, on a Gorman RBI double, but the Tigers could not mount a late comeback, as the winning streak, which started on April 8, came to an end.

Brockport leads the all-time series between the two schools, 67-54. The Tigers out-scored their opponents, 121-36 over the 14-game winning streak, longest in program history.

RIT will return home next for two Liberty League doubleheaders against St. Lawrence on Saturday and Sunday. The Tigers and Saints will get underway at 1 p.m. Saturday and 12 p.m. Sunday from Tiger Stadium. On Saturday, RIT will honor seniors Dillon, Gorman, Kaganich, Myers, and Phil Sammon (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield). RIT also puts its 11-game winning streak against Liberty League foes on the line.
