King's Baseball Wins Series Opener at FDU-Florham 6-3, Will Host Devils in Saturday Doubleheader

KING'S BASEBALL EARNS 6-3 WIN OVER FDU IN FIRST OF THREE-GAME SERIES

MADISON, NJ --  The King's College baseball team built a 6-1 lead through six innings en route to an important 6-3 victory over host FDU-Florham Friday in Madison, NJ.

With the win King's improved to 16-15 overall and 9-7 in the MAC Freedom Conference while FDU slipped to 12-17 and 6-10.  The win enabled the Monarchs to remaining in third-place heading into the team's doubleheader matchup against FDU Saturday at King's. Manhattanville is 8-8 and Eastern is 7-9 with five league games remaining.

King's took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Christian Pack singled, advanced to second on a passed ball, and scored on a single by Chris Rebar. 

The Monarchs added another run in the second inning when Sean Padden singled, advanced to second on an infield out and scored following a single by Pack.

After FDU scored a run in the fourth, King's countered with one in the fifth inning. Bruce Breithaupt singled and later touched home on a double by Shawn Stone.

The Monarchs added three more in the sixth, aided in part by two FDU errors. Tom Gibbons was hit by a pitch, stole second, and moved to third on an errant throw to second on the play. Gibbons then scored when Pack reached base on a fielding error.  Rebar followed with a RBI triple and scored on a base hit off the bat of Kyle Lupas to give the Monarchs a 6-1 lead.

FDU cut the lead to 6-3 with two runs in the seventh but Chris Lupole entered the game to blank the Devils the rest of the way.

Rebar led King's by going 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBI. Pack finished 2-for-5 with two runs and a RBI while Lupas was 2-for-5 with a RBI.  Dan Hartson picked up the pitching win for King's, lasting six full innings and allowing. Lupole picked up his first save of the season.

The Monarchs and Devils will play the final two games of the series Saturday at 1:00 PM at King's Lipo Field.
