Giants and Knights Split High-Scoring CSAC Doubleheader

Aston, Pa. – Keystone College and Neumann University split a pair of high-scoring baseball games on Saturday as the two teams closed out their Colonial States Athletic Conference regular season series. The Giants (25-10, 15-3 CSAC) won the first game 17-9 to claim the season series while the Knights (17-16, 11-7 CSAC) avoided the sweep with a 12-7 decision in the nightcap.
 
Game 1
 
Keystone jumped out to a 3-0 lead in their first at-bats in Saturday's opener by plating three runs on three hits.  Adam Kelly (Beach Lake, Pa./Honesdale) connected on an RBI double, Brady Barr (Bowie, Md./Bowie) followed with an RBI single, and Kelly came home when Austin Chaszar (Bordentown, N.J./Bordentown Regional) grounded into a double play.
 
The Giants added three more runs in the visitor's third on three more hits.  Kelly delivered another RBI double to left field before Barr connected on his team-leading seventh home run of the year, a two-run shot to left to give the visitors a 6-0 advantage.
 
Keystone extended its lead to 10-0 with four runs on four hits in the top of the fourth inning.  Anthony Ferrezza (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) hit a two-run single to right field before coming home on a wild pitch.  Barr then drove in the Giants' 10th run of the day on with a base hit to left field
 
Neumann battled back into the game by scoring five runs on six hits in the bottom of the fourth inning to make it a 10-5 ballgame, but Keystone answered with three runs on four hits in the top of the fifth.  Bray Curreri (Eldred, N.Y./Eldred Central) had an RBI double before Ferrezza smacked a two-run double to right field to give the Giants a 13-5 lead.
 
The hosts got a pair of runs back in the home sixth to cut their deficit to six runs at 13-7, but Keystone plated four runs on four hits in the top of the seventh inning to claim a 10-run lead. Brendan Long (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) hit a two-run single before Barr and Tony Hunter II (Savannah, Ga./South Effingham) added RBI base hits to push the visitors lead to 17-7 before the Knights added a pair of runs in the bottom half of the frame to close out the scoring.
 
Keystone starter Miguel Reyes (Bronx, N.Y./Monroe) improved to 6-1 on the season after going 5.2 innings and allowing seven runs on 10 hits while striking out five batters.  Gerry Gonzalez (Manhattan, N.Y./Progress) yielded one earned run on two hits in the final 1.1 innings to close out the win.
 
Barr went 4-5 with five RBI and four runs scored while Ferrezza was 3-3 with four RBI and four runs scored to power Keystone's offense.  Long added three hits as the Giants outhit the Knights by an 18-12 margin in the opening game win.
 
Neumann starter Grant Wallace was charged with the loss after yielding eight runs on seven hits in 3.1 innings before the Knights turned to four relievers to close out the game.
 
Matt McLaughlin had a team-high three hits while Evan Emerich drove in four runs in the game one loss.
 
Game 2
 
Keystone took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning of Saturday's nightcap as Ferrezza scored on a sacrifice fly from Barr before Chaszar connected on a double to center that plated Long.
 
Neumann got a run back in the bottom of the first inning by scoring on a wild pitch, but the Giants countered with four runs on three hits in the visitor's second to stretch their lead to 6-1.
 
Long and Kelly connected on RBI singles before Chaszar hit a two-run base hit to center to give Keystone the five-run cushion.
 
The Knights battled back with three runs on four hits and two Keystone errors in the bottom of the third inning to cut their deficit to 6-4 before tying the contest at six-apiece the following inning on a two-run double from Emerich.
 
The Giants went back in front, 7-6, in the top of the fifth inning when Billy Nelson (Moscow, Pa./North Pocono) drove in Chris Panzarella (Hazle Township, Pa./Hazleton Area) with a double to centerfield, but Neumann countered with six runs on nine hits in their half of the frame to surge in front with a five run lead of their own while holding the visitors off the scoreboard the rest of the way.
 
Neumann starter Patrick Graham took a no-decision with six runs against on five hits over 1.2 innings before giving way to Anthony Stricker, who picked up the win after allowing one run on three hits while fanning nine batters over the final 5.1 innings. 
 
Emerich and Chuck Trentler had three hits apiece for the Knights while Cody McNair drove in three runs in the win as the hosts outhit the Giants by a 17-8 margin.
 
Keystone starter Yeison Andujar (San Juan, P.R./Programa Educativo Alcance) was tagged with the loss after giving up eight earned runs on 11 hits while striking out four batters in four innings.  Pat Meagher (Wall Township, N.J./Wall) yielded two runs on five hits while Dylan Leahy (Montgomery, N.Y./Valley Central) allowed just one hit over the final 1.2 innings.
 
Chaszar led the Giants offensively with a pair of hits and three RBI.
