More news about: Kean

Mahwah, N.J. (5/2/17) – The Kean University baseball team used small ball to their advantage to walk away with a 4-3 win over Ramapo College in the New Jersey Athletic Conference opening round on Tuesday.

Trailing 1-0 heading into the fifth, the Cougars used back-to-back infield singles from John Carello and Mike Fidanza to get things going.  Frank LoGuidice then reached second via a throwing miscue on a sacrifice bunt that tied the game at one-all.  Derek Walker followed with a sacrifice of his own to make it 2-1 and Matt Krupa added another to take a 3-1 lead.

Steve Santigate started off the sixth with a triple and Frank Urso delivered with an RBI single pushing the lead out to three.  That would prove to be the difference as the Roadrunners (22-15) used a two out, two RBI homer from Vincenzo Sita in the seventh to close the deficit to one.

Tyler Hopman entered in relief and worked into and out of trouble in the eighth and closed the door in the ninth to preserve the win.  He earned his third save.

Starter Jonathan Rodriguez earned his first collegiate decision tossing seven innings allowing three runs on eight hits.

Offensively Santigate, Urso and Brian Cole each had two hits.

Kean will square off against Rowan University on Friday at 7 p.m.
