New Paltz Baseball Falls at Lehman 15-9 in Regular Season Finale

BRONX, N.Y. – Despite a career-high five RBI from sophomore Danny Campbell (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River), the baseball team at the State University of New York at New Paltz fell at Lehman 15-9 on Tuesday afternoon to conclude the regular season.

The Hawks (17-17) will now prepare for the 2017 SUNYAC Tournament from May 5-7 as the No. 4 seed, playing host No. 1 seed and No. 9 Oswego on Friday, May 5 at 12 p.m.

New Paltz, reaching the SUNYAC postseason for the first time since 2013, is in search of the program's first playoff win since 2001.

Lehman, meanwhile, improves to 11-24 and will play John Jay in the first round of the CUNYAC Tournament on Thursday, May 4 at noon.

For Campbell, his five RBI outing equals his entire total from his freshman campaign as the third baseman finished 2-for-5 including a grand slam homer to left center on a 1-2 count in the third inning.

Overall, the Hawks tallied the nine runs on nine hits and enjoyed two crooked innings, plating five runs in the third and four runs in the sixth to conclude the offense.

As for the host Lightning, Lehman tallied a seven-run first and followed that with one run in both the second and third. Lehman finished the scoring with two runs in the fifth and four more in the eighth as the Lightning finished with 16 hits but committed five errors.

Joining Campbell with a productive outing was freshman Julian Francisco (Bedford Hills, N.Y./Fox Lane) as the outfielder went 2-for-4 with one run scored. Freshman Anthony Amoroso (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) scored twice while senior Anthony Diana (North Amawalk, N.Y./Somers) went 1-for-4 with an RBI double and two runs scored.

Sophomore Michael Delio (Westbury, N.Y./Carle Place) was tagged with the loss as seven pitchers appeared for the Hawks in the final tune-up game before the postseason.

Three pitchers threw three innings each for the Lightning. Five players had two or more RBI for Lehman and six players had at least two hits. Chris Lopez enjoyed a two-home run outing.
