The Baruch College Bearcats started the CUNYAC Tournament on a winning note with a high-scoring 10-5 victory over the Beavers of CCNY on Thursday afternoon at Kingsborough Community College baseball field in Brooklyn, New York.

CCNY started the tournament at 12:00 p.m. today by defeating associate member the University of Maine-Presque Isle, 2-1, in a play-in contest. That set up the start of the double-elimination tournament and the Bearcats pounded out 14 hits for 10 total runs in the win.

Rookie Paul Sirakowski earned the win with six strikeouts, while Ryan Smith pitched the final 1.2 innings keeping the Beavers off the scoreboard to help catapult the team into the winner's bracket contest.

Jasdeep Buttar did most of the damage at the plate, batting 4-for-5, which included a three-run blast in the sixth inning to break a 4-4 tie into a 7-4 lead. He later smacked an RBI triple in the seventh inning.

The Bearcats will have to wait until Saturday to play, as Friday's schedule is postponed, due to the forecast for heavy rain.
