UNION, N.J. – Sixth-seeded William Paterson (15-21-2, 8-10 NJAC) saw its season come to a close, falling 6-1 to second-seeded Ramapo (23-15, 15-3 NJAC) in an elimination game of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Baseball Tournament May 6.

The Roadrunners broke the scoreless deadlock during the top of the fifth inning. A walk, balk and base hit put runners on the corners with two outs, and back-to-back RBI-singles from senior center fielder Brandon Martinez and junior first baseman Connor Walsh made it a 2-0 score.

The Pioneers got one back during the home half of the seventh when junior catcher Jorge Solodkin (Short Hills, N.J./Millburn) hit a one-out single and advanced to second on an error, moved to third thanks to a passed ball, and scored two batters later on a Bernard Brito (Fair Lawn, N.J./Fair Lawn) fielder's choice.

Ramapo added four more runs in the top of the eighth, using a base on balls, single, two-run throwing error, RBI-double, sacrifice and wild pitch, widening their lead to 6-1.

Solodkin accounted for two of WP's three hits while scoring a run.

Despite taking the loss and falling to 3-4, Pioneer lefty starter Chris Babb (West Milford, N.J./DePaul Catholic) took a shutout into the fifth inning, allowing two earned runs overall on seven hits and five walks while recorded three punchouts in 6.1 innings of work. Junior right hander Adam Miller (West Orange, N.J./West Orange) gave up three runs, two earned, during 0.2 inning, classmate Bryan Kopko (Colonia, N.J./Colonia) permitted one earned in 1.0 frame, and senior right hander Frank Colasante (Paramus, N.J./Paramus) spun a perfect ninth.

Senior right fielder Rob DeAngelis went 3-for-4 and scored a run for Ramapo. Senior righty John Doherty (3-0) worked 7.1 innings on the mound, allowing one unearned run on two hits and five walks while fanning eight (3-0).
