RIT extends winning streak to nine and gets to 30 victories with sweep at Bard

ANNADALE-ON-HUDSON, NY — The RIT baseball team (30-7, 22-1 Liberty League) finished the regular season by extending its winning streak to nine games by sweeping Bard (9-28, 4-20 Liberty League) in the regular season finale doubleheader at Honey Field on Sunday. The Tigers won game one 7-2, before polishing off the regular season with a 12-4 win in game two.
 
"We are really happy with the way the team finished the regular season and got to 30 wins," said RIT head coach Rob Grow. "It's a great accomplishment for this team and we're looking forward to the Liberty League Tournament this week."

The Tigers have now won nine straight games and are an incredible 23-1 over its last 24 games. The Tigers broke Liberty League regular season records for most league wins (22) and best league winning percentage (.957). RIT's 30 wins are a program record.

In the opener, Bard jumped out to a 2-0 lead. The Tigers roared back with three runs in the fifth, and four in the sixth, to come away with a 7-2 victory.
 
Will Gorman (Nassau, NY/Columbia) led the way offensively for the Tigers, as tied the game with a two-run triple in the fifth inning and also scored two runs. Navada Waterman (Coudersport, PA/Coudersport) also had a triple, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored. Brett Kajganich (North Royalton, OH/Holy Name), Jason Schulz (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool), and Mike Myers (Hamlin, NY/Brockport) also added an RBI each.
 
Daniel Zeglen (Scotia, NY/Scotia-Glenville) started the game, and fired his second consecutive complete game, allowing just one earned run on three hits, with two strikeouts. Zeglen is now 6-0 on the season and has allowed just three earned runs over his last 29 innings.

Julian Gonzalez led Bard with an RBI, while three different Raptors finished with a hit each. Bard used three pitchers in the game. Evan Richardson made the start, going five innings and allowing five runs (two earned) on three hits and five walks, with four strikeouts.

The Tigers came alive in game two, ripping 16 hits.

Bard came out strong, scoring twice in the top of the first inning, before RIT came back with 12 unanswered runs, including four in the second inning, and three in the eighth.

Daniel Capra (North Salem, NY/North Salem) was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs to lead the way offensively, coming just a homer shy of the cycle. Jason Schulz (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) was 2-for-4 with four RBIs and Dom Scialabba (North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick) was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs.

Waterman, Zeglen, and Myers each had a pair of hits, while Gorman and Sammon added one apiece.

On the mound, the Tigers used five different pitchers in the contest. Tom Dillon (Oswego, NY/Oswego) made the start, going two innings and striking out one, with two runs on four hits. Ben Clough (Tolland, CT/Tolland), Connor Ewing (Fairport, NY/Fairport), Michael Campbell (Honeoye Falls, NY/McQuaid Jesuit), and Kyle Povlock (Fairport, NY/Fairport) all saw action on the bump as well, with Clough picking up the win.

For Bard, JT Fisher and Quinn McInerney both finished with RBIs, while three different Raptors had a pair of hits. Bard used four pitchers in the game, with Kyle Zigner making the start and picking up the loss, throwing 2 2/3 innings, allowing six runs on 10 hits.

RIT is now 11-0 all-time against Bard. The Tigers end the regular season with a 19-game winning streak in league play, having out-scored Liberty League foes, 176-54 in the 23 contests. Overall, RIT has out-scored its foes, 282-122 this season.

The Tigers will be back in action starting Thursday, May 11, as they host the 2017 Liberty League Tournament at Tiger Stadium. Opponents and game times will be announced on Monday. Follow www.ritathletics.com for all information.
