NCAA Regionals: No. 6 Panthers in Regional Final, Split Day Three

SAUGET, Ill. – No. 6 Birmingham-Southern baseball overcame an afternoon loss to advance to the NCAA Sauget Regional final.  After falling to 5-0 to North Central College, the Panthers (39-9) pulled out the 6-1 semifinal win over Wartburg College to advance to their second regional final in three years.

 

Sam Roberts (Johns Creek, Ga./Blessed Trinity) led BSC offensively on the day.  He batted .625 with five hits and two RBI. Will Toner (Atlanta, Ga./Marist HS) finished the day with three hits and one run.

 

Andy Hammond (Oxford, Ala./Oxford HS) picked up the win after going 5.2 innings and giving up just one run.  Easton Fuller (Fairhope, Ala./Alexandria HS) earned the save.

 

BSC led 1-0 until the fourth inning when Wartburg tied it up.  The teams remained knotted until the sixth.  Tyler Wise (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park HS) doubled to center and was brought home by a single from Preston White (Memphis, Tenn./Memphis University School).

 

The Panthers would extend their lead in the seventh, tacking on three more runs while holding Wartburg scoreless.  Another run in the eighth would push their lead to five.

 

BSCc will face North Central in the regional final Sunday at noon.
