More news about: Birmingham-Southern

SAUGET, Ill. – The No. 6 Birmingham-Southern baseball team fell 3-2 Sunday to North Central College in the NCAA Sauget Regional Championship.  The game went to the 11th inning before NCC put across the game winning run in a walk off walk.

Rich Misischia (Dothan, Ala./Regis HS) and Sam Roberts (Johns Creek, Ga./Blessed Trinity) had two hits on the day.  Ryan Gaines (Dunwoody, Ga./Dunwoody HS) earned the start. He went six innings and struck out a game-high four batters.  Tyler Hamel (Atlanta, Ga./Alpharetta HS) hit a home run to open scoring in the second inning.

Roberts, Gaines, and Tyler Wise (Birmingham, Ala./Spain Park HS) were named to the all-tournament team.

BSC closed its season 39-10.  The Panthers have had seven 30+ win seasons under Head Coach Jan Weisberg.  This was the fourth consecutive 35+ win season.

The year also capped off the collegiate careers of one of the most successful classes in school history.  This senior class broke records and made four consecutive trips to the NCAA tournament.  Gaines will go down in history as the winningest pitcher the program has seen, as Stephen Himic (Birmingham, Ala./Indian Springs HS) sits top five in career ERA.

Weisberg became the fastest coach in BSC history to hit 300 wins.  After 10 seasons on the hilltop, he is the second winningest coach in program history, behind only baseball coaching legend Brian Shoop.

BSC was ranked as high as second in the country this year.  Statistically, they ranked in all but one team category, and had six individuals rank nationally across 14 categories.  The Panthers graduate eight this spring.
