GEORGETOWN, Texas - Scoring two runs in the first and never looking back, the East Texas Baptist University baseball played spoiler to Southwestern University's home opener by winning 5-1. This win puts ETBU at 3-2 overall.

Three ETBU players would each collect two hits as Kentavious Miller, Zach Gartner, and Seth Mikeska would lead ETBU's offense with the latter two each getting two RBI. Landen Barns would score two of the five runs by ETBU while both Zachary McAdams and Dylan Sumpter each drew a walk twice. SU was led by Seth Sparks who got two hits and drove in the only run for the Pirates.

On the mound, Blake Corbin would get the win by pitching five innings allowing one run on three hits while striking out five. Alex Arellano (2.0 IP, one hit, one strikeout) and Jordan O'Bannon (2.0 IP, 0 hits, three strikeouts) would combine to pitch the final four innings to secure the win. Tyler Polasek took the loss for SU by lasting 5.1 innings allowing four runs on six while walking four batters and striking out two.

ETBU started things off right when after a one-out walk to Mason Aldredge, Gartner drove him in with an RBI triple before Casey Combs followed that with an RBI single to give ETBU a 2-0 lead. After being held scoreless in the bottom half of the first, SU would cut the deficit to one on a two-out single by Sparks to trail 2-1. The score remained the same until the top of the fifth inning when Gartner's second triple of the game drove in Miller for a 3-1 lead. SU threatened in the bottom of the fifth with two runners in scoring position before Corbin retired the side on a flyout to center.

One inning later, Barns led off with a double and advanced to third on a wild pitch before Mikeska drove him in on a sacrifice fly for a 4-1 lead. The eighth inning would have a similar theme as Barns would reach base before advancing to third on a wild pitch. Mikeska would pick up his second RBI in the top of the eighth inning when he doubled to left center scoring Barns and giving ETBU a 5-1 lead. ETBU's bullpen had no trouble in shutting the door on the Pirates for the win.

ETBU will be back in action tomorrow for a doubleheader that will start with the seven-inning game at 1:00 PM followed by the nine-inning game at 3:00 PM.
