In the nightcap, it took 12 innings and was not decided until 12:40 a.m., but it was the Boxers who came away with the 4-2 win.
Tied at 2 in the 12th inning, senior Dylan Wright picked up his third hit of the game with a single. After a strike out, he stole second to move into scoring position. Next, freshman Ryan Krout (Washougal, Wash.) singled to put runners on the corners for Galeno.
The Auburn, Washington native reached on a fielder's choice to score Wright from third and an error on the throw by the Blues advanced him to second and Krout to third. With one out and runners on second and third, Derek Ridgway (Elko, Nev.) plated the Boxers an insurance run on a sacrifice fly.
In the bottom half of the inning, Kanazawa overcame a single to lead off the inning, inducing a double play to halt the threat. Then, he ended the game with his fourth strikeout of the night to improve his record to 2-1 on the season.
In the nightcap, the Blues plated two runs in the first inning off Pacific starter Trevor Quinn (Fresno, Calif.) for an early 2-0 lead.
Pacific took advantage the first of three Blues' errors in the third inning to cut the deficit to 2-1. To start the inning, Wright picked up a two out single to extend his hitting streak to seven games. The Boxers tied it in the fourth on a RBI double by Legeza, scoring Ridgway who had walked to start the inning.
Kanazawa entered the game in the sixth after Quinn walked back to back batters with one out. The senior from Honolulu kept the Blues off the scoreboard with a fly out and ground out.
They mounted their next threat in the seventh inning where Kanazawa got a ground out to end that opportunity. Then, another chance for the go-ahead run came in the eighth for the Blues but the Boxers' defense turned a double play to take that opportunity away.
A chance for a walk-off by the host Blues came in the ninth with the winning run on third but again, Kanazawa had the answer with a strikeout to send the game into extra innings. With runners on first and second and third in the 10th, the Blues flied out to right field to erase that chance.
The two teams will wrap up the weekend series with a game on Sunday at noon.
