#19 TCNJ Takes Down Gwynedd Mercy

EWING, N.J. -- The Gwynedd Mercy University Baseball team hit the road for the second-straight day against a nationally ranked opponent. The Griffins took on defending NJAC champions The College of New Jersey on Wednesday, but it was the Lions scoring a 10-4 decision.

Juniors Evan Miller and Nick Mulvey each had a pair of hits and an RBI on the afternoon. Jason Mulvey also drove in a run and scored while Shaughn Wright and Gabe Leff also touched home.

The Griffins jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Jason Mulvey walked and advanced on a failed pick-off attempt to start the inning. Nick Mulvey would then knock in brother Jason for the game's first run. Ryan Keen added the second hit of the frame, advancing the runner to third. Nick Mulvey would then score on a wild pitch. The Lions responded in the home half of the first with three runs on four hits to take a 3-2 lead.

TCNJ (1-0) would plate a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth innings to stretch their lead to 7-2.

Gwynedd (1-2) answered in the sixth, starting the rally with a Wright walk. Wright would then advance on a After a Josh Lopez single to move up Wright to second, Miller followed with an RBI to plate Wright and cut the lead to 7-3. With two outs, a Justin Curtin walk loaded the bases. Jason Mulvey drew a walk to plate Leff to pull within 7-4. The Griffins were unable to capitalize the rally, as they stranded three runners on base.

The Lions stretched their lead in the seventh, tacking on three insurance runs to lead 10-4.

The Griffins put runners on in the eighth and ninth with a single from Alex Ritter and a double from Nick Mulveybut were unable to slice into the deficit.

Bryan KaelinJared Gorman and Shane McGrody all appeared on the mound for GMercyU.

Tommy McCarthy led TCNJ with three hits and three RBI's on the afternoon. Michael Fischer earned the victory working into the sixth inning.

The Griffins will return back to action on Saturday in sunny Florida at the RussMatt Invitational in Auburndale. Gwynedd will take on Concordia (MN) managed by 2008 Phillies World Series champion Chris Coste for a pair of games starting at 2:30 p.m.
