SAUGET, IL - The Benedictine University baseball team opened the season with a loss to Transylvania

• Transylvania was playing for the fifth time in a game moved from Monday which marked the first contest of the season for Benedictine
• Transylvania's starting pitcher set the tone from the beginning of the game, striking out the first two batters in the top of the first
• Jimmy McLaughlin tallied a two-out single before another strikeout finished the opening swings of the year
• Benedictine struck out 10 times in six innings against the Transylvania starter including five times in the first two frames
• Frank Greco started for Benedictine and allowed a pair of unearned runs in the third
• Greco was lifted in the fifth as Transylvania, members of the HCAC, tallied the final four runs of the game
• Tyler Woynerowski logged the first extra-base hit of the season with a one-out double in the seventh but was stranded at third
• Benedictine also left runners in scoring position in the eighth and ninth


• Benedictine out-hit Transylvania 6-5
• Greco allowed just two earned runs in 4.1 innings, walking four and striking out four
• Drake Berman and Ivan Guzman also saw time on the hill with Guzman closing the game by working the final 3.2 innings, striking out four
• Woynerowski was the lone Benedictine player to notch more than one hit, finishing 2-for-4 in his collegiate debut
• Nicholas Lee drew a pair of walks
