PASADENA — The Occidental baseball team swept Caltech in a three-game series over the weekend. 

Season Impact: Oxy improves to 7-4 overall and 6-3 in SCIAC.

Caltech falls to 2-10 and 0-9.

Game 1: Occidental 6, Caltech 1

Jared Baur went 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, JP Flores was 2 or 4 with a pair of runs scored and Michael Netzel was 2 for 3 with two walks and an RBI as the Tigers held off the Beavers.

Josh Cohen started and threw another gem for Oxy, going seven innings with eight strikeouts, one walk, three hits and no earned runs. Cohen was named the SCIAC Baseball Player of the Week last Monday after throwing a complete game against Cal Lutheran.

Jeff Oki was solid in two innings of relief, striking out three, with no walks and one hit. He gave up one unearned run.

Jonah Krop pitched all nine innings and was charged with the loss for the Beavers. 

Oxy scored a pair of runs in the second, three in the sixth and one in the eighth. 

Game 2: Occidental 15, Caltech 2 (8 innings)

Jake Fredrickson and Bryan Smith both had monster games as the Tigers blew open Game 2 for a big win.

Fredrickson went 3 for 5 with three runs scored and a pair of RBIs.

Smith was 1 for 2 with a Grand slam and a sacrifice fly for five RBIs.

Baur finished off an outstanding day at the play, going 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs.

Nolan McCarthy, Cade Denyer and Dean Abramson combined for a solid outing on the mound for the Tigers.

Game 3: Occidental 12, Caltech 2 (7 innings)

The Tigers rallied for nine runs in the bottom of the seventh to earn a shortened-game victory over the Beavers.

Eight different players totaled nine hits, led by Eamon McNeil who went 2 for 3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI. Reid Gibbs homered, and Jack Brancheau, Michael Netzel, Jake Fredrickson and Bryan Smith all doubled. 

Netzel drove in three runs, and Smith, Gibbs and Joey Garza all drove in a pair of runs.

JP Flores went 1 for 2 with a pair of runs scored and a stolen base. 

Justin Hirschberg started and got the win in what was essentially a staff day, pitching 2.1 innings without an earned run. Tom Butler gave up one earned in 2.2 innings, and Will Martel and Jeff Oki each threw a clean inning to close out the sixth and seventh.
