Chargers Hold Off Green Terror

The Lancaster Bible College baseball team won its third straight game on Monday, holding off McDaniel, 3-2 at Charger Field. The Chargers are now 3-5 this season, while the Green Terror fell to 0-1. 

Game Notes: Lancaster Bible starter, and North Eastern Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week, Zack Leonard, and McDaniel starter Jordan Rhodes engaged in a terrific pitcher's duel over the first four innings...Leonard was masterful over five innings, allowing just three hits, while striking out two and walking two...Leonard worked out of a bases loaded jam in the fifth inning, as he got the first batters to ground out, but allowed two straight singles and a walk to load up the bases...Leonard hung tough however and got Will Strauss to ground out to third baseman Adam Cohick, who stepped on third base and ended the threat...Rhodes was impressive as well, allowing three hits over four innings, while striking out four and walking one...Chargers freshman Noah McMullen took over for Leonard in the sixth and promptly struck out the side, and Lancaster Bible's offense finally broke through in the bottom half of the inning...The Green Terror quickly got two outs, but junior Will Welsh walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch...Sophomore Matt Taylor also walked and Cohick followed with a single through the right side that scored Welsh and pushed Taylor to third...With runners on the corners, senior JJ Sanchez doubled to right field, scoring Taylor and moving Cohick to third, as the Chargers took a 2-0 lead...After a pitching change, Cohick scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0, before the Green Terror were finally able to get out of the inning...McMullen worked out of a jam in the seventh, as he stranded runners on first and second, after allowing a walk and a single with just one out...The Chargers left two runners on in the bottom of the seventh, and then Kasey Nelson cut the Green Terror's deficit to 3-1 on an RBI single in the top of the eighth that chased McMullen...Freshman Trevor High entered, and after another RBI single, was able to get the Chargers out of the inning, leading 3-2...With two outs in the top of the ninth, McDaniel connected for back-to-back singles, but High got Antonio Rosanova to ground into a fielder's choice, securing the Lancaster Bible victory.

Inside the Box Score: Lancaster Bible posted eight hits, while McDaniel had nine...The Chargers did not commit an error, while the Green Terror had three...Welsh finished 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored...Senior Josh Mayer was 2-for-4 with a run scored...Sophomore Sam Taylor and junior Colin Myers each had a hit for Lancaster Bible, as did Cohick and Sanchez, who each drove in a run as well...Ryan Downes and Tom Griest each had two hits for the Green Terror...McMullen earned the victory, his second of the season, while High earned his first collegiate save for the Chargers.

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 1-2 all-time against McDaniel...This was the first meeting between the teams in exactly two years, as the Green Terror swept a doubleheader from Lancaster Bible on March 5, 2016...Myers and Sam Taylor each had a stolen base on Monday and are now tied for the team-lead with three...Leonard, who hasn't factored into a decision yet this season, now has a 1.13 earned run average with 10 strikeouts in 16 innings.
