Timely Hits and Stellar Pitching Secures 4-2 Win for Ithaca over CMS

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Ithaca College baseball team improved its record to 4-3 on the season with a 4-2 victory at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Monday afternoon at Arce Field in Claremont, Calif. The win for IC snaps its two-game losing streak and drops CMS to 13-8 on the season.

The Bombers struck first at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps with a two-run double off the bat of junior Sam Little with two outs in the top of the third inning. Senior Domenic Boresta and junior Webb Little scored after reaching on a walk and single up to centerfield. Both runners moved up before the double on a wild pitch.

CMS knotted the contest up at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth with a two-out, two-run single over the third base bag after a single and double put both runners in scoring position.

Ithaca regained the lead in the top of the seventh inning, which proved to be the eventual game-winning, double from junior Andrew Bailey that pushed home junior Cam Fuoti and Boresta. Fuoti led off the inning with a single and moved up to second on a wild pitch, while Boresta followed with a walk and scored from first on the Bailey double.

The Bombers recorded six hits in the win, with two a piece coming from W. Little and Fuoti, while Boresta scored twice and drew two walks.

Senior Jack Morello earned his second win of the season in six innings pitched. Morello allowed seven hits and struck out five batters to just one walk. Junior Christian LaLomia secured his first career save in hitless three innings of work out of the bullpen with one strikeout.

Ithaca takes on the defending national champions, California Lutheran, tomorrow at 3 p.m. (PST) in Thousand Oaks. Cal Lutheran went 40-11 last season en route to the program's first-ever national title, and brings an 11-9 mark into tomorrow's contest.
